Elevating Community-Based Economics Across Borders

Elevating Community-Based Economics Across Borders Following a highly productive study visit to Jakarta, I am thrilled to share a significant milestone for the Cambodian Amanah Takaful Association (CATA). We had the honor of meeting with Mr. Doddy Akhmadsyah Matondang, CEO and the leadership team of SMECO Indonesia, an incredible organization that supports over 6 million SMEs and cooperatives. During the session, I had the opportunity to present CATA’s vision for ethical finance, community development, and our upcoming CATA Community Mart project. We are incredibly excited by the enthusiastic response from SMECO’s leadership, who expressed strong interest in a strategic B2B partnership. This collaboration will aim to link SMECO’s massive network of high-quality cooperative products with the CATA Community Mart ecosystem, creating a robust, cross-border business network that benefits local entrepreneurs in both Cambodia and Indonesia. By combining CATA’s mutual assistance models with SMECO’s vast enterprise ecosystem, we are building a stronger foundation for sustainable, community-driven retail and trade. Stay tuned as we formalize this exciting framework!

Current Situation and Joint Development Directions of the Association of Islamic Non-Governmental Organizations

His Excellency Senior Minister Othman Hassan chairs a meeting on the current situation and joint development directions of the Association of Islamic Non-Governmental Organizations —— Phnom Penh: On the afternoon of April 1, 2026, His Excellency Dr. Othman Hassan, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions, chaired a meeting on the “Current Situation and Joint Development Directions of the Association of Islamic Non-Governmental Organizations” at the Phnom Penh Islamic Center (PPIC). This important meeting was attended by a total of 250 presidents and vice presidents of Islamic organizations from the capital, provinces and across the country. The meeting was held with the aim of further strengthening solidarity in one goal: community development, creating a network to receive and provide information to each other to facilitate the organization of future training courses and workshops, and providing mutual support. On that occasion, HE Senior Minister Othman Hassan expressed his great pleasure to have come together with the leaders of Islamic associations and organizations in this important meeting today, which is a special opportunity for us to jointly review the current situation and set directions for the greater good of the Islamic community in Cambodia. HE said that today is the day we have come together again after having held a large discussion meeting in 2020 at the Council of Ministers, where HE the Senior Minister clearly remembers the spirit of solidarity with the large participation of representatives of Islamic associations and organizations, approximately 500 units, to jointly solve the challenges facing the community. HE the Senior Minister said that according to data from the Ministry of Interior, Cambodia has a total of 6,571 registered associations and organizations, including more than 300 Islamic associations and organizations, which are actively working in important sectors such as education, health, humanitarian, social affairs, and many other sectors. His Excellency the Senior Minister expressed his highest appreciation and appreciation for the strong humanitarian spirit of all of you who have worked hard to mobilize assistance from Islamic countries and friends around the world to build many achievements, including: schools, mosques, sororities, waqf projects, clean water wells, toilets, donations of zakat, iftar packages, and scholarships for underprivileged students in communities, etc. These activities show that you are the development partners of the Royal Government in contributing to the development of communities as well as the entire national society. His Excellency also stated that the Royal Government of Cambodia always welcomes and fully supports assistance and donations provided by various charitable organizations to provide common benefits to the Cambodian people. It is worth noting that during this meeting, representatives of associations and organizations raised opinions, challenges, and suggestions that could allow His Excellency the Senior Minister to help better coordinate between the state and Islamic civil society organizations, increase closer and more transparent cooperation with the Royal Government, and ensure real common benefits for communities as well as the national society.
